The piece is speaking out to you as you make it - each line, shape, and color arguing, loving, talking to each other. Not to mention the subject’s spirit coming through asking to be brought forth. In trying to do so, sometimes choices become overwrought, fussy, or counterintuitive and choke the energy of the piece. Once the King and Queen started to vie for their existence as the main subjects I became their servant and caretaker. Cradling an idea once it’s caught is an art, coddling it is not. That’s the beauty of the dance we dance.
