Expressions is a series of paintings made simultaneously with feverish freedom using bold brushstrokes and vivid colors. It is the result of an exciting and impulsive wave of inspiration after spending an afternoon looking at every single one of the nearly 1200 archived works of Pablo Picasso, and watching the 1996 film "Basquiat". I found a great wellspring of my own creativity, and had a meeting with infinity in seeing so many possibilities by working this way - fast, on multiple works at once, one in the spotlight being on the easel, the rest on the floor, sometimes cradling one in my arm like a pallet. Music guided me very much in this flow too. It was specifically 80's pop-rock like The Cure, REO Speedwagon, David Bowie, Prince, and the likes. The punchy, electric attitude of that era of music matched mine, and kept the energy up and moving. Whatever mode, approach, or artist study that went into producing these works clicked with a surprising surge of creativity. I see the first five of these Expressions paintings as discoveries of a soon-to-be abundant body of works exploring within this style.
